Mental health and suicide support helplines
Has anyone ever told you you’re a great conversationalist? That you’re great at listening as well as talking? That you can create conversations sometimes out of very little?
Then SOS could have the perfect voluntary role for you! Our next training segment is 17-20 January 2023 (4 days)
Our new service, which opened in October 2022, is currently recruiting for non-employed, unpaid phone volunteers to talk to people who are lonely, alone, and/or isolated. This service will not require you to deal with any emergencies or mental health concerns. It is, quite simply, a chat between two people.
Your training will consist of developing key skills and will provide you with all the necessary tools to carry out this role confidently.
You’ll need to be available between 8pm and midnight on either Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday for this particular role. We welcome applications from anyone aged 16 and above.
Working as part of a small but dynamic and dedicated team, you’ll have the opportunity to learn and develop skillsets which will be transferrable throughout your life.
Training will be online only and you will volunteer from the comfort of your own home. Remember to check out all our volunteering opportunities!
Training is over 4 consecutive days, covering 4 modules. Everyone will complete modules 1 & 2(as long as Module 1 is completed) and then our trainers will decide who should progress to Modules 3 & 4. The times on each module are: Mod 1: 9am-7.30pm allow 4 hours, train when it’s convenient. Mod 2: 11am until 4pm (with breaks) Mod 3 (11am until 4pm) with breaks, Mod 4 (4 hours to be confirmed nearer the date)
