Suicide Prevention and Awareness 1 Day Course

Know What to Say. Know What to Do. Be Ready to Help.

Every hour, someone dies by suicide in the UK. That’s over 7,000 lives lost every year – and many of them never told anyone how close they were to the edge.

1 in 11 working adults in the UK are experiencing suicidal thoughts – yet most will never tell a professional. When people do open up, it’s usually to someone they already know and trust: a colleague, a manager, a friend. That first conversation matters. It can be the turning point – or a missed chance. This course changes that.

You Don’t Need Clinical Training to Make a Difference

You do need the skills, the confidence, and a clear sense of what to do next.

SOS Silence of Suicide’s 1-day CPD-accredited course is built for non-clinical professionals – the colleagues, managers, and frontline staff who are often the first to notice when something’s not right, to:

  • Recognise invitations that someone may be at risk
  • Start conversations that matter – direct, compassionate, and stigma-free
  • Build safety plans that help people stay alive during their hardest moments
  • Understand risk factors, challenge myths, and respond with calm, informed empathy

This is a safe, practical learning space – with real-world knowledge you can use the very next day.

Why This Matters

  • One suicide can affect as many as 135 people – colleagues, friends, family, and beyond
  • Many people who die haven’t recently engaged with mental health services – but they’ve often spoken to someone else
  • A single conversation won’t solve everything – but it can open a door, interrupt a crisis, or even save a life
