World Mental Health Day 2022

October 10

World Mental Health Day

Today is World Mental Health Day, a day when the global community have the opportunity to focus on mental wellbeing, poor mental health and the impacts these have.   It’s also important to realise how each one of us can play a part in helping anyone who is vulnerable.

We chose to announce our new coffee chat line today as part of our suicide P.I.A initiative.  Our coffee line opens at 8pm on Tuesday 11 October and is for anyone who is not in crisis, but is still vulnerable and needs someone to talk to.

This means SOS are now delivering support every evening of the week, with Friday-Monday reserved for our crisis line only.

Ideally, we’d have both lines running alongside each other, but we are simply too small at the moment to be able to deliver this.  Hopefully, with more volunteers continuing to join us, it won’t be long before we can do this.

The theme for this year’s WMHD is to ensure that Mental Health & Well-Being becomes a Global Priority for all.

We owe it to ourselves and our fellow human beings to put mental health and wellbeing at least level with physical wellbeing.   Days such as today give us the opportunity to do just that.

If you have a green ribbon, wear it with pride today as that is the symbol for this day.  And let’s start caring in a bigger way for ourselves and others around the world.
