Our next training dates are 21st & 22nd June 2022 and you will need to be available for both of these dates, thank you.

IMPORTANT: For spot checking roles, you must have access to, and use of, either a laptop or desktop computer for our telephony portal to run.

For frontline phone support volunteers, you MUST use a mobile handset for this.  Your number is not given out to anyone, and no-one can see it

All volunteers must be able to donate at least 4 hours of their time per week and should be suitably experienced in the role they are applying for (does not apply to training, front line, or spot check volunteers) Google Adwords, Fundraising and Grant volunteers should apply by sending their CV to contact@sossilenceofsuicide.org

Frontline phone support and spot check volunteers opportunities are 8pm until midnight Monday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday only. PLEASE: Take time to fully consider the potential emotional impacts on yourself and those around you by volunteering with SOS, especially if you are applying to be a phone support volunteer.  Conversations can be difficult, and what you are told in confidence can be distressing.  Be honest and think it through.  If you have any doubts at all, consider another role within our charity
Please respect our tiny resources and do NOT apply if you are waiting to hear back from job or other volunteer applications which could change your ability and availability to volunteer with SOS. Training will not be offered to anyone whose situation could change in the next 3 months. Thank you for your understanding and honesty.
Being selected for initial training, does NOT constitute an acceptance of your application for unpaid volunteering with us. Online training, followed by a zoom meeting will be over 2 days. You should allow 3 hours (of your choice for day 1) and 3 hours for day 2 which will be fixed between 11am and 3pm. You will undertake this training regardless of the role you've applied for. Please do not apply if you cannot commit to this, thank you.
Please note, our frontline phone support and spot check volunteers will be required to volunteer ONLY on Friday, Saturday, Sunday or Monday evenings between 8pm and Midnight.

You should be able to tick all boxes. We are a charity who communicates regularly by email. Therefore, your reading, writing and understanding skills need to be of a reasonable standard, meaning, you would be able to carry out all aspects of your volunteering.
We will ask you more about this privately before we consider you for training to make sure volunteering for SOS is the right role at the right time for you.
An enhanced DBS check through our preferred checker will cost you £12.00. Not all roles will be subject to a DBS check, please ask when you train with us.
