A new Government and the King’s speech
A new Government and the King’s speech
Now that Labour are in power, can we dare hope for a new era of improved mental health provision and accessibility?
On July 4th, the people of the country duly elected Keir Starmer of the labour party our new Prime Minister.
Labour say they plan to overhaul the Mental Health Act, and the King’s Speech confirmed this, stating ‘It will legislate to modernise the mental health act so it is fit for the 21st century’
Let us hope these plans come to fruition, alongside the promotion of children’s wellbeing under a Children’s Wellbeing Bill and plans to halve violence against women and girls.
It was disappointing that no mention of mental health warnings on the potential harms of gambling were mentioned and SOS continues in its drive to make this happen, initially through a new petition.
SOS welcome what was included in the King’s Speech, and remain hopeful the new Government will deliver.
Because for too long, people have been kept waiting; for too long, people have been left with no support systems, and for some, too long has signified the end.
