Statement from Yvette Greenway-Mansfield, CEO of SOS Silence of Suicide, in response to the Sky News article on violence against women and girls:
“As someone who has personally experienced sexual, physical, and psychological abuse, I understand the deep and lasting scars it leaves behind. I count myself fortunate to be here today. Many others have tragically lost their lives to violence that should never have happened. Abuse is rarely a single act; it is often a cycle where different forms of harm feed into each other, creating profound trauma, shattering confidence, and leaving lifelong emotional wounds.
While government discussions and reports may acknowledge the crisis, they become hollow without meaningful action. Survivors must be heard, included, and empowered to help shape the solutions, not just reduced to statistics in another report.
At SOS Silence of Suicide, we stand ready to listen and support those who need us. If you are struggling, please reach out to our freephone helpline on 0808 115 1505; opening hours (Monday to Friday, 8 pm – Midnight, Saturday and Sunday, 4 pm – Midnight).
You are not alone; we are here to listen, stand with you, and push for real change.
