Running in memory of friends lost, James Inspiring journey Raises £545 for SOS Silence of Suicide.
On a beautiful sunny morning in Nottingham on 29 September 2024, runners gathered for the annual Robin Hood Half Marathon. Among them was James, a dedicated fundraiser who participated not only to challenge himself but also to raise awareness for suicide prevention. Running on behalf of SOS Silence of Suicide, James’s efforts have raised an impressive £545 for the charity, which plays a crucial role in supporting those who feel they have no one to talk to during their darkest moments.
James decided to fundraise for SOS Silence of Suicide not just to complete a half marathon but also as a heartfelt response to the loss of friends who took their own lives over the years. These experiences weighed heavily on his heart, compelling him to contribute to an organisation that offers hope and support to individuals struggling with suicidal thoughts.
The half marathon turned out to be more challenging than James had expected. Living in a flat area, he needed to prepare for the hilly terrain of Nottingham. Nevertheless, his determination kept him going. “It was tough but very rewarding, both in terms of finishing and the money raised,” James reflected after crossing the finish line, his face beaming with exhaustion and pride.
James’s journey didn’t end with the race. Fueled by the success of his fundraising efforts and the positive impact he hopes to have on others, he plans to lace up his running shoes again for another event once his legs have healed. His commitment to raising awareness about suicide and supporting those in need is unwavering, and he looks forward to continuing this vital work in the future.
As we celebrate James’s inspiring achievement, we commend him for his courage and dedication to making a difference.
Georgina Jones, Deputy CEO for SOS Silence of Suicide, stated, “James is not only a runner; he is an ambassador for change. His dedication to breaking the silence around suicide and raising awareness is a powerful testament to his commitment to supporting others. We are profoundly thankful for his efforts at the Robin Hood Half Marathon, which helped us further our mission at SOS Silence of Suicide. Together, we can create a community where everyone feels safe to talk and seek help.”
His story reminds us of the importance of community, compassion, and the power of reaching out to those who may be struggling. Thank you, James, for your incredible efforts and being a beacon of hope for so many.
