7,064 people died by suicide in the UK last year. This figure combines data from the Office of National Statistics for England and Wales, National Records of Scotland, and the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency.
Approximately 9% of the UK workforce struggles with thoughts of suicide, amounting to over 2 million people (Champion Health, 2023). These figures remind us of the urgent need for action. The Health and Safety Executive report that in 2023/24, the number of working days lost to stress, depression and/or anxiety were 21.1 days, equating to 16.4 million days, higher than general ill health days lost.
