In Memory of Nathan: Family Raises £1,132.50 for SOS Silence of Suicide
Coming together in grief and love, the group chose SOS Silence of Suicide because of their heartbreaking loss:
“We chose Silence of Suicide as we have recently lost a close family member who felt he had no other option but to end his life. We wanted to raise awareness about services that can help people struggling, so that no other family has to feel this pain.”
The team recently took part in a running event, completing the course side by side as one. It wasn’t about times, medals or competition – but about community, solidarity and getting each other through.
“The event was fabulous. The atmosphere was really good, and as we are not regulated runners, we chose to do this all together, regardless of time completed. It was about helping each other through. The quote of the day was: pain is temporary.”
For the family, fundraising has become a way of transforming heartbreak into hope. Together, they have organised football matches, a Lift the Silence fitness class, and other activities to raise awareness and funds for mental health. Their next event will be the first annual Memorial Cup Football Tournament on 23rd August – a lasting tradition to honour Nathan’s life and spirit for years to come.
Nathan, who passed away on Friday 13th June 2025 at just 37 years old, was remembered by his family as “the most magnetic, charismatic, kind, caring person, loved by everyone.” An Everton FC supporter, he loved football, music – especially Coldplay and Catfish and the Bottlemen – and was always ready for a laugh with an Adam Sandler movie.
The funds raised will make a real difference. £1,132.50 will help SOS Silence of Suicide to break 755 minutes of silence through its freephone helpline, group gatherings, and mobile wellbeing hubs, ensuring that people in crisis are heard, supported, and never left alone in their darkest moments.
SOS Silence of Suicide, Events and Fundraising Manager Jasmine Nisbett-Gordon paid tribute to the family’s incredible strength and compassion:
“Dawn, Natasha, Leah, Laura, Melissa and all of Nathan’s loved ones have shown remarkable courage in the face of unimaginable grief. By turning their pain into purpose, they are creating a powerful legacy for Nathan. Their fundraising not only honours his memory but helps SOS continue our mission to ensure that no one suffers in silence.”
Through their love, unity, and determination, Nathan’s family are not only keeping his memory alive, but they are also breaking the silence, helping saving lives, and bringing hope where it is needed most.
