SOS Silence of Suicide joins forces with Sheriff Construction to take on the silence surrounding suicide in the construction industry
We are incredibly proud – and deeply moved – to share that SOS Silence of Suicide has been chosen as one of Sheriff Construction Ltd’s Charities of the Year, as the company marks its 20th anniversary.
This milestone isn’t just about celebrating years in business for Sheriff, it’s about recognising the people, stories, and communities behind the work. And as part of their ‘Big Charity Challenge’, they’re aiming to raise £20,000 that will be split between the three causes close to their hearts: the British Heart Foundation, Dementia UK, and SOS Silence of Suicide.
For us at SOS, this partnership carries huge meaning. Construction is one of the hardest-hit sectors when it comes to mental health struggles and suicide. But beyond the statistics are real people – colleagues, friends, loved ones – who are carrying silent burdens every single day. Sheriff Construction isn’t just acknowledging that reality – they’re choosing to do something about it.
Sheriff Construction Managing Director, Ekrem Mahmutaj, said:
“2025 marks a significant milestone for Sheriff Construction – our 20th anniversary. Over the past two decades, we’ve grown from a small family-run business into a thriving enterprise. Yet throughout this journey, we’ve held firmly to the family values that shaped us from the start – especially our commitment to giving back to the communities and causes that matter most to us.
“That’s why we’ve set ourselves an ambitious challenge this year to raise £20,000 that will be split between three remarkable charities – the British Heart Foundation, Dementia UK and SOS Silence of Suicide.
“Our support for SOS Silence of Suicide is especially close to our hearts. As a company in the construction industry, we’re acutely aware of the high rates of suicide and poor mental health affecting our sector. But even more than the statistics, it’s the personal stories we’ve heard from within our own network that have moved us to act.
“Through this partnership, we hope not only to raise vital funds that will help SOS support people in crisis, but also to raise awareness and spark open conversations around mental health in our workplace and beyond.”
Matt Weaver, Senior Partnerships Manager at SOS Silence of Suicide, said:
“Being chosen as one of Sheriff Construction’s charity partners means so much to us. It’s not just about the money raised, though that will help us reach and support many more people. It’s about standing together to say: we see you. You’re not alone. And it’s time to talk.
Suicide and mental health struggles thrive in silence, but partnerships like this shine a light. In a sector where stigma has kept too many people quiet for too long, Sheriff’s decision to speak up and take action is powerful. Together, we’ll break the silence and create spaces where people feel safe to open up and ask for help.”
This partnership is a reminder that businesses can lead with heart – and that collective compassion can quite literally save lives.
